Special Events include:
- Evening receptions
- The opening night reception is Thursday night in Tabaret 112 (the chapel)
- The Saturday night party is in Demarais 12102, in the newly opened 12th floor of the university's newest building
- Poster session
- 36 posters will be on display Friday evening from 4:45 until 6:!5 in the Demarais building lobby. Refreshments will be provided.
- Plenary talks
- There are two plenary keynote addresses: Thursday evening's talk by Rena Torres Cacoullos, and Saturday evening's by William Labov.
- Plenary panel
- A plenary panel on Friday night by the "MontrÉal Group" will highlight the early days of sociolinguistics in our conference host country, Canada.
- Student party
- Friday's programme ends with an unofficial grad student gathering. Free pizza will be provided, a full menu is available for those who wish to purchase other food, and The Draft Pub at the uOttawa Sports Complex is promising specials on drinks.
